What Changed for 2008:
The Saturn Sky and Sky Red Line rear-wheel-drive (RWD) roadsters for 2008 are carryover from 2007, with a few notable changes. Now-standard features include electronic stability control, a new radio, and XM satellite radio. The Sky, which shares its platform with the Pontiac Solstice, added the performance-oriented Red Line trim in 2007.
Model Lineup
For 2008, Saturn offers the RWD 2-seater Sky and Sky Red Line roadster models with standard manual transmission. An automatic transmission is optional on both models. Both models include air conditioning; remote keyless entry; power windows, door locks and mirrors; reclining bucket seats; cloth convertible top with power controls; 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS; and a limited-slip differential (optional on Sky, standard on Red Line). The standard Sky model comes with a 173-hp, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and 18-inch alloy wheels. Sky options include 18-inch chrome-plated wheels, performance exhaust system, and a decklid spoiler. A Premium Trim package that includes leather seat inserts, steering wheel audio controls, stainless-steel pedal covers, and metallic finish sill plates is available for Sky only.
Sky Red Line includes a 260-hp, 2.0-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, performance suspension tuning, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual polished aluminum exhaust tips, Red Line gauges, and unique front grille. Red Line options include an automatic transmission, performance exhaust, 18-inch chrome-plated wheels, decklid spoiler, Red Line embroidery, and leather seat trim.
Powertrain
The 2008 Saturn Sky is powered by a 2.4-liter, 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with variable valve timing (VVT) that generates 173 hp at 5800 rpm and 166 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. The Sky Red Line powerplant is a 2.0-liter, dual overhead cam (DOHC) with VVT, 16-valve, turbocharged, intercooled 4-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection and twin balance shafts that delivers 260 hp at 5300 rpm and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500-5200 rpm. Both engines transfer power to the rear wheels through the standard 5-speed manual transmission, with a 5-speed automatic available. Electronic stability control and 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS are standard. A limited-slip differential is standard on Red Line and available on Sky. EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2.4-liter engine are 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway with manual transmission, and 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway in automatic configuration. The 2.0-liter engine in the Sky Red Line gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway (manual) and 19 mpg city/26 mpg highway (automatic).
Safety
The 2008 Saturn Sky safety features include 4-wheel disc brakes; dual-stage front air bags for driver and front passenger with passenger sensing system; front safety belts with pre-tensioners and energy-absorbing retractors; electronic stability control; projector-beam headlamps; daytime running lamps; and OnStar free for one year.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Saturn Sky convertible receives a 4-star rating for both occupants in frontal and side-impact crash tests. In NHTSA rollover-resistance testing, the Sky receives a 4-star rating.
